Shirley Sackmann…aka "The Knaughty Knitter"

I have lived in the Yakima Valley since 1982. I started
knitting many, many years ago, and love to knit all sorts of things, from
infants to adults. I enjoy a challenge; patterns and colors make knitting fun.
I have decided to share some of my favorite things with the community.

I have been an "artist" since age 4. I now, proudly, call myself an Artist. I work with metal, textiles and beads.
Each piece is one of a kind and has an organic quality. My works starts internally, and I am always amused and amazed when the piece is finished. I will spend thought and time envisioning how each component relates to the whole. Then, in an instant the finished piece immerges before my eyes.
I have exhibited in Norhtwest galleries and have received numerous awards.
I have enjoyed designing and producing the pieces currently on display at THE MUSEUM OF GLASS gift shop in Tacoma, Washington and of course Bead & Body!

“Glass artist” is just one of the many things I get to play at these days – and my favorite, second only to playing Mom to my amazing three children. When I am not creating something new I am in school working toward my teaching degree.
In many ways I have been designing and creating things pretty much my whole life. My love of jewelry and glass started at an early age when my grandmother would let me explore the treasures in her jewelry box. She also taught me to appreciate the uniqueness of glass by sharing her love of antique bottles with me.
Challenges fuel my creativity. The thought process during the design and construction of a new piece can be my last thought at the end of the day, wake me from a night’s sound sleep or drive me through a difficult morning workout.
Each day I try to create something that pushes the limits of the glass but retains functionality. There are beads that are made to be worn and then there are beads that are made to be adored. I like my beads to be both! They must be unique, stylish and a true representation of my artistic expression.
